Addressing cross border malaria transmissions, challenges and best practices from the Asia Pacific

While significant progress has been made in reducing malaria burden worldwide, malaria transmission along or across international borders has potential to undermine these gains. Cross-border malaria is a complex and multi-faceted issue, with many factors contributing to high receptivity and low intervention coverage. Most significantly, the movement of mobile and migrant populations that occurs across borders can lead to the reintroduction of the disease into areas that have successfully reduced or eliminated malaria transmission. As such, eliminating malaria requires a coordinated effort across multiple countries. The success of malaria control and elimination programs is highly dependent on effective cross-border collaborations and strategies that address the unique challenges posed by cross-border malaria transmission. For this Surveillance and Response TechTalk, a series of panel speakers discussed cross-border interventions in various transmission settings.
